Reverie Tenants Union hasn't added a story.
In 2017, Julie was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. While on disability leave from work, surgery successfully removed the cancer before it could spread further, but less than 2 months later, Julie sustained a serious injury and it became necessary to take another leave — this time for several months.
Her disability benefits weren’t sufficient to allow her to stay current with rent, but previous management was more lenient, and she eventually became current.
During Winter, 2020-21, Julie attempted to have a much delayed spine surgery, again taking her employer’s disability leave. Her first surgery failed because of an interaction between a painkiller her surgeon insisted she must take prior to the surgery, and the anesthesia she was administered, causing her blood pressure to plummet. Another attempt at surgery was made a month later, but her surgeon was steadfast about her taking the drug once again, and the result was identical to the first try.
After returning to work, never having had surgery, she once again was determined to catch up with back rent, but her employer made changes to how her job metrics drove her pay, and things drew out until she finally got to the point where she was current before the end of the month. Meanwhile she was able to obtain a higher paying job.
She stayed in open communication with a member of H-I’s management, during Fall, 2021, and was told that it would be OK to once again pay be the end of November. When she reached out to H-I, her calls weren’t returned. When she finally reached someone at the office, they wouldn’t accept her payment, and was told she would need to appear in court.
In addition to November’s rent, she set aside December through February, so she would be prepared to pay in full the amount of the judgment.
When the court date arrived, she was informed by the collector representing H-I that even though she could pay, they sought to “disassociate themselves” from her, and moved forward with the eviction.
Even though the judge said that her case won’t go on record as an eviction proceeding, she must vacate the premises by February 28.
Reverie Estates and H-I Management are also demanding $4100 for
“damages”. Help Julie find a home!
