Once upon a time, Thomas was a stray cat fighting to survive on the streets of Maryville. At some point along the way, he got into some trouble with another animal and injured one of his back legs.

A good samaritan noticed him limping with his injured leg lifted off the ground and decided to try to help. She started leaving out food and water and earned his trust. While Thomas's personality blossomed, his injury just didn't seem to heal.

Several weeks passed and Thomas still would not put his leg on the ground. He resisted putting any weight at all on it. He seemed to be struggling and in pain, so when the injury did not improve, he was brought to Blount County Humane Society.

Knowing that we (BCHS) are a No Kill rescue that would not simply have him put to sleep, the good samaritan who surrendered Thomas was confident we would take good care of him.

A visit to our vet confirmed what we suspected: So much damage had been done that Thomas's leg needed to be amputated. In addition to getting him the surgery, we had him neutered and vaccinated for rabies and FVRCP.

Today, Thomas is a healthy, three-legged cat who gets around just fine - in fact, he seems to not realize he is missing a leg! He's been adopted into a loving home where he'll be spoiled for the rest of his years.
