Hello, I am Dominic the bunny. After much pain and neglect, I was surrendered to a vet who decided to put me to sleep because I was so unwell then. My rescue was entirely fortuitous and the best thing that happened to me – I came to Helicopter Ears who made me feel like a bunny again. I had all of my infected incisors extracted, a special mashy diet developed for me and my own canteen which I carried a magic key to.

Last year I felt more and more unwell, exhausted, gasping for air… there was just not enough air, breathing was such hard work. I was trying to hide it from humans at first - I always ate my mash, ran for my bananas and loved my head rubs. When they noticed my breathing struggle, everything was tried but nothing worked. The vet said nothing could be done and I had to be kept on some medicine to make it easier for me to go to the Rainbow Bridge. I was so scared that my humans would decide to send me away, I didn’t want to go, I was not ready to leave my bun-wife, my mash and my bananas. So I started coming to my humans’ bed at night, and every time they walked past me I started coming to them, trying to show them I needed help. When I was gasping for air at night, feeling so unwell, my bun-wife Dakota started waking humans, scratching their face on bed, trying to say that their little Dominic needs help. And it worked!

I had a very expensive CT scan which showed exactly where my problem lay and it showed that I could be saved which I knew anyway. My operation was performed by one of the top bunny specialists at the Royal Veterinary College.  I needed it and it saved my life. I am now back and I can breathe like I have never been able to before! I may look like a wounded seal with my face shaved and resemble a dolphin a little too breathing through a hole in my head but my sinuses are free of pus and clean for me to enjoy my bun-life, my bananas and my bun-wife!

I am a special needs bunny and I don’t have any money so I now ask for help to cover my surgery and aftercare. Helicopter Ears phoned around and drove around to find me the right treatment. Together, we raised funds for my X-Ray, CT scan, referral, medicines and half the cost of my surgery. But I still owe for my operation and I have an appointment on Wednesday 8 March with my surgeon to consider my further treatment. I will not be able to go unless I can cover all costs.

I am getting better, and I want to continue getting better, and a tiny help from everybunny will help me to continue on my recovery. I was so lucky to have this new treatment which not many bunnies in the country have had – only two science papers exist to date that describe cases and treatment similar to mine. The RVC were so kind to allow me instalments because my operation was life-saving and urgent. They are a charity too! Their treating of bunnies like me paves the way to other bunnies’ wellness. Could you please send me what you can towards my operation and my treatment, it doesn’t have to be much. But with all your help, the treatment will be perfected and other bunnies will be helped too!
