This year the Edinburgh Montessori Arts School is hoping to be represented in the Montessori Model United Nations by 8 students! Together, the delegates – Aaron, Angus, Harriet, Lilly, Oscar C., Oscar S., Tia and William – want to say a big thank you for any and all support we receive to help us participate in such an unbelievable program. MMUN is a program where students from around the world meet together and discuss possible solutions to global issues. This year we are representing several countries (Afghanistan, Venezuela, and Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as NGOs) and debating the problem of climate change. We are raising funds to help with some of the cost of our travel and accommodation to the 2015 conference, which will take place in Rome, Italy.
As delegates, we have many different skills, and we also have various perspectives on how to approach the problems our world is currently facing with the environment. Together, we feel we have the knowledge and responsibility to bring our ideas to MMUN and help find a way to treat our environment better. We plan on learning a tremendous amount from the experience and other students attending and then teaching others about what we have been researching. MMUN teaches kids from across the world that our voice deserves to be heard. We are learning how to collaborate on our ideas with the various ideas and opinions of other students. This program also teaches us that we have the ability to create local and global change if we put our minds to it. By donating to our cause, you would be helping us partake in an incredibly beneficial experience.
In order to truly understand how each of us can make a real difference in our community, together, we have pledged to do 100 good deeds before we leave for MMUN! Our good deeds will incorporate keeping the environment clean as much as we can, and we will be making video and written updates as we complete our exciting challenge. We would love any suggestions or requests for new ways we can give back to Edinburgh.
