Pet Project Rescue hasn't added a story.
We recently rescued Max from a horrific situation and just a few days later at his first vet check-up the vet noticed something wrong with his hip. An x-ray showed he had a broken hip that healed improperly and he was in constant pain. We were shocked - he's such a calm little guy, but that was masking serious pain! He's now on pain medication and we are scheduling his surgery ASAP, but we need to raise the $3,230 to cover the surgery fee. This is the lowest quote we found - at a highly experienced vet.
Max needs this surgery to have a good quality of life, and because we didn't know of his injury prior to his adoption, PPR is stepping up to fix this per-existing medical issue. We need your help to assure Max gets the happily ever after he deserves. Any donation helps - please give today!
Read Max's amazing rescue story:
Max unexpectedly entered my life in early April during a trip to Inn House, a desperately poor neighborhood in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I (Maia – Pet Project Rescue), Laura (Coco’s Animal Welfare), and Alex (Saving Lives) were together for a week long spay/neuter project, and as we were navigating the bumpy dirt road to pick up twenty dogs and cats for our weekly free spay/neuter clinic – a vital service for this community lacking electricity, running water, and paved roads – a small, distressed dog caught our eye.
We turned back, inquiring about the dog’s owner. Matted fur encased his body, and he moved with a slow, uncomfortable stumble. Our initial hope was to get permission for his neuter and grooming, but we learned his previous owners had abandoned him when they moved. Neighbors claimed he was untouchable, though his filthy, neglected state likely deterred them from trying. We approached him and he was eager for attention and allowed us to pick him up and take him with us!
Max was neutered, vaccinated, and while still sedated, we took him to Nancy, a volunteer groomer. This skilled animal lover shaved Max completely; not an inch of his fur was knot-free. Freed from the matted burden, he seemed like a different dog, revealing expected dermatitis but looking much improved!
A PPR supporter saw his story all the way in Minnesota and wanted to give him his forever home! It took a month of quarantine and setting up the processes of getting him to his new home. He arrived on May 10th and settled in better than we could have ever dreamed of! We are so grateful for Mary - she made it possible to save Max, and we, at PPR, want to support her and Max and assure he has the best life possible!
Please help us give Max the happy ending he needs and life free of pain. A donation in ANY amount is hugely helpful. Every dollar helps! Thank you❤️
