WASH (WAter, Sanitation, and Hygiene) is an integral part of people’s livelihood, conservation, and climate change impacts. In developed countries, even the poorest communities have easy access to toilets and clean water for drinking, hand washing, and bathing. Unfortunately, this is not the case in many parts of the developing world such as Cambodia. Challenges due to lack of access to WASH can impact freshwater ecosystems, crops, domestic water usage, overall hygiene and health. Communities also have difficulty adapting to the impacts of climate change, especially with increased global warming.
In Sambour Commune, Siem Reap Province, at least 2 households do not have adequate WASH facilities.
- 1 family screwed together some metal sheeting to serve as the bathroom
- Another family continues building their bathroom when they have some spare money.
These facilities serve the most basic functions but are still inadequate, for example in terms of a functioning sceptic tank, roof coverage when it rains, or a proper door to close for privacy.
We would like to provide WASH solutions for these 2 families, so that residents can engage in good hygiene practices, ensure that domestic waste is contained within the sewage system, and be resilient to climate impacts.
Your contribution will provide construction materials to build the toilets and cover the wages of the construction team. For example, $125 will pay for a team of workers to build 1 toilet in 1 week.
