Heartbeat At Wounded Knee or HAWK 1890 is a non-profit organization made up of descendants of the survivors of the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890. One of the goals of HAWK is to honor and respectfully memorialize the survivors and victims of the massacre.

One of the accomplishments of the organization is they were able to recover  and repatriate a Ghost Dance shirt from Stockholm, Sweden.

Hawk has also started an initiative to have the medals of honor awarded to the 7th Cavalry for the Wounded Knee Massacre, rescinded,

The survivor descendants now live in various areas of the Untied States and Canada, though most remain within the borders of their ancestral lands.

Currently there are several things the group must meet to discuss, including healing from the generational trauma caused by the massacre, potential issues arising regarding the massacre and burial sites as well as reunifying with more relatives.

A meeting is scheduled to take place at Bear Butte in Sturgis, South Dakota October 13-15, 2017. We have fallen short in our other fundraising efforts to accomodate those traveling to the meeting. Our current fundraising goal is $5500 to assist with food, lodging and travel for participants who are traveling a long distance to attend the meeting as well as providing transportation for disabled and elderly descendants who wish to attend.

if you are able, please contribute and also please share with others so we can work to raise the rest of the funds needed.
