We are a coalition of concerned citizens in and near Huntingdon, PA working to prevent the construction of a large Rutter's truck stop adjacent to Old Crow wetland off Route 22 in Huntingdon. Old Crow is a diverse, rich wetland visited and inhabited by many species of birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and insects. This important habitat would be destroyed by chemical, light, and noise pollution if a truck stop were built immediately next to it. We believe that the health of our natural world takes priority over the profits of private companies.
In anticipation of the Department of Environmental Protection's granting of permits for Rutter's project, the Coalition is raising funds to advance a legal appeal of those permits through the Environmental Hearing Board in Harrisburg. Please contribute what you can for this small but mighty endeavor and share with others who believe in the importance of wetlands to our lives, ecosystems, and economies.
PENNSYLVANIA CONSTITUTION Article I, § 27
The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the
preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic
values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural
resources are the common property of all the people, including
generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the
Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of
all the people.
