Sleat Community Trust hasn't added a story.
If you’re looking for the future of rural fuel services, then look no further!
Sleat Think Tank is a new campaign, launched with the aim of raising £40K for a proposed upgrade to the current fuel pumps at the community owned filling station at Armadale, in Sleat, on the southern peninsula of Skye.
Although the current fuel pumps have served the community well, they have been in operation for over 40 years and thus are nearing the end of their operational life. With no spare parts available on the commercial market, and half rubbed off display heads, they are becoming ever more costly to maintain, and difficult to operate. In addition to this, Sleat has seen a population increase of 13% in the last ten years, and increased passing trade off the Calmac Mallaig - Armadale ferry link meaning that the demand for fuel has never been higher!
To remedy the situation, your donation will help to secure a brand new Tokheim Q210 24hr fuel dispenser! This will mean that diesel and petrol will be available to the community and passing trade at point of need at any time of day or night. This reliable and highly flexible service is desperately needed in the area in order to secure the viability of the community owned Filling Station, and a prosperous one future for the whole community – Hoorah!
However great or small we can accept your donations via the following methods:
Online donation – To donate online via credit/debit card, or Paypal, check out our great list of donation options on the right hand side of your monitor screen. The options range from a £5 donation which will get you a personally written thank you e-mail, right up to £250 where we will send you a fuel voucher worth £50 PLUS a £25 voucher for a local business such as Ragamuffin. We have been incredibly fortunate with the response and good will of the community of Sleat to offer up these donations – snap them up while you still can!
Postal cheque – You can send a cheque for an amount of your choosing to

Do you find that your kids wont stop banging their forks and knives on the dinner table? Do they generally scoot around energetically banging things while vocalizing some original and thought provoking chant music? They may just be perfect for drumming!! I have been providing bilingual workshops in drumming to schools, feisean and community groups for the past 6 years and I have experience in turning that thud on the kitchen table into 7/8 polyrythms that will accentuate any steak dinner. Ages 9+ Capped @15 kids for 2 hours at a time. Time and date to be released as numbers come in.

We are utilising the considerable talents of local jeweler Heather McDermott (see a collection of her earrings in our last perk update and website below) who is willing to share some of her trade secrets with you in a 1 day jewelry workshop. She states: "In this one on one session you will learn some basic techniques of how to work with wire, sheet metal and go through the process of designing a piece which you will make by the end of the day. Before the session I will ask you to have some ideas to come to the class with, whether simply you want to make a pair of dangly earrings to making a silver pendant of a flower. Basic techniques that will be covered: Saw piercing, making jump rings, soldering, shaping wire and manipulating sheet metal. There will be an extra charge for the amount of silver used however this can be discussed on the day"
