18 November 2019 Update :
On 15 October, IDEP partnered with Community Institute for Participation In Development (LPPM Maluku) to distribute food and infant needs to 261 families (1,044 people) in Tenga-tenga village, Salahutu sub-district, Central Maluku. The hundreds of families were forced to live at the evacuation camps after their village was rocked by a major magnitude 6.5 earthquake on 26 September.
This condition worsened when on November 14, 2019 an earthquake of 7.1 Magnitude occurred in the Molucca Sea. Until Saturday 16 November 18.00, the National Meteorological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) recorded 185 subsequent aftershocks with varying strengths between 2.7 - 6.1. Whereas for the epicentre points near Ambon City, BMKG still recorded aftershock activity up to 2,345 times with the largest magnitude of 5.6 and the smallest 3.0.
National government through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) extended the emergency response period in Maluku Province until 10 January 2020. BNPB recorded 148,619 people still surviving in evacuation camps due to the earthquake. In addition, the loss of infrastructure facilities and infrastructure such as bridges and roads, has resulted in many communities not being reached. This is because the evacuation camps are spread in various locations, not at one point.
Considering these conditions, we look forward to your attention and assistance for remote communities that are still unreachable. IDEP and LPPM who have provided the first phase of assistance are hoping to reach more affected communities in remote areas. Specifically to meet the needs of families, women and children during the emergency response period and await the completion of infrastructure reconstruction that are still in the process of being carried out by the government.

6.5 SR Magnitude with 10 KM depth earthquake struck Maluku Province on the early morning September 26 2019. National Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) have confirmed that the earthquake is in type 1 which have 3 phase: foreshock, mainshock, and aftershock. At this moment, there have been several aftershocks varied from 4 – 5 SR, however, the agency reported no tsunami potential for the affected areas.
The earthquake has caused at least hundreds heavily injured, almost thousands of families lost their homes, 30 people died, and infrastructural damages. The latter damages have caused dozens of villages isolated and unreachable by help and aids.
Therefore, IDEP team has received information from partner on the field who have arrived from day-2 after the main shock, LPPM Maluku, that the villagers in Haruku Island and Kairatu areas are desperately need supports. There are 3,279 families currently living in 10 evacuation posts that are receiving very minimum supports from external sources, ie only instant noodles and several boxes of packaged water.

Together with our Partner on the field, LPPM Maluku, IDEP will reach the communities in Haruku Island and Kairatu Village by provision of Family Aid Bucket which contains goods for the whole family and will be enough for at least two weeks in the emergency response period. Family Aid Bucket will be filled with: tarp, mat, tent, blanket, baby’s needs (oil, soap, food, etc.), sanitary pad (women needs), lighting device, healthy foods for the family, family medicines, and media on disaster risk reduction for children. These needs may be modified following the most needed goods by the communities.
One family bucket that cost about US$ 100 will provide for family basic needs for two full weeks that will help them greatly to resume to the normal condition.
