Hello, my name is Mrs. Flink and I'm the PE teacher at Happy Valley Elementary School. Thank you for visiting my fundraising campaign page!
OUR STUDENTS
Students at Happy Valley are eager and enthusiastic about physical education! Elementary P.E. helps to build the foundational skills, knowledge and values along the road to physical literacy which includes being physically active for life. I am consistently impressed and proud of our students for their growth mindset and willingness to challenge themselves with new skills, regardless of the unit we’re in.
Whether it’s creating a gymnastics routine, dedicating themselves to practicing an event for the annual all-city track meet, or performing a headstand for the first time, I appreciate how our students are always up for a challenge. I am lucky to work with students who are respectful, responsible, safe, and kind every day; this makes being a physical education specialist beyond fun and enjoyable. Likewise, I optimistically believe that my students associate enjoyment with being physically active as they experience and learn new skills, movement patterns, games, and fitness activities in PE class.
OUR PROGRAM
Happy Valley students participate in unconventional units that are unique to our school’s PE program such as roller skating and orienteering, along with conventional units that all students in our district partake in such as soccer, gymnastics, track & field, basketball and net sports, just to name a few. In addition, the Happy Valley PE Department champions special events such as our annual Bike Rodeo, Family Fitness Night, The All-City 5th Grade Track Meet, and other various field trips and culminating activities. We are even looking forward to hosting a Field Day this upcoming spring! These programs and events require extra financial support to sustain themselves beyond the stipends typically provided by the Bellingham School District.
HOW YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS PHYSICAL LITERACY AT HAPPY VALLEY
Your donations will help facilitate physical literacy development at Happy Valley in the following ways:
- Replace outdated or worn-out PE equipment for all students
- Purchase new PE equipment for unconventional units such as skating gear and orienteering sets
- Increase viability for culminating field trips, special events and activities
- Fund our first new-era Field Day with necessary equipment, tools and materials
- Financially support professional development opportunities to refine best practices and expand the Happy Valley PE curriculum
- Provide greater opportunities for cross-content collaboration and student learning with our music & library media specialists, classroom teachers, nurses and counselors.

Here in Washington, we
believe in fostering both the mental
and
physical health of a child. Simply put, a healthy child has
fewer absences, learns better, and is less likely to develop
weight-related diseases later in life.
Schools play a vital role in the wellness of children. Students
spend almost as many waking hours at school as they do at home, and
consume up to two thirds of their daily calories here. This means we
have an important opportunity – and responsibility – to teach and
reinforce healthy habits.

How it works:
- 75 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to the school campus, to be spent on wellness at the school's discretion.
- 25 cents goes to support school wellness in underserved communities through SHAPE Washington--the professional association for health & PE teachers in our state--and CATCH Global Foundation, a 501c3 dedicated to bringing wellness to underserved communities nationwide.
