This is my uncle David in the 1970's when I first heard him play in
our home.
The thoughts he wrote above the sheet music to "Pretty
Brown" in his songbook are:
"When I was a child, I thought anyone black, or brown
could not possibly be beautiful. The childhood brain-washing of
primitive savages and fair heroes and heroines had worked. I am
happy to say those chains have long been broken."
Honouring Indigenous people of Canada and my uncle David Campbell an Arawak singer songwriter from Guyana who wrote "Pretty Brown." This and other creations will benefit a relational bridge building project to help bring understanding and healing.
