The city of Savannah estimates that there are approximately 4,200 homeless individuals, not including those individuals and families who are in extreme poverty.
The mission of United Ministries of Savannah: Emmaus House is to collaborate with the community to provide hearty meals and basic needs services to the homeless and near homeless in Savannah GA.
Emmaus House is the product of six downtown churches who came together in 1982 in an attempt to confront the hunger plight. Thirty four years later we are serving approximately 200 meals each weekday morning as well as providing laundry services, restroom and shower services and agency referrals as needed. Our clients come primarily from the over 34 different homeless camps spread all over the city, as well as transient individuals and those who are housed but in extreme poverty.
We do no vetting at our door; our philosophy is that everyone deserves respect in addition to food.
We have partnerships with Second Harvest food bank as well as various grocery stores around the city. However, our food and food supply costs are our biggest expense. At $3.50 per plate, every little bit of monetary assistance is greatly appreciated (and tax deductible!).
Please consider donating. As long as there are hungry people in Savannah, we will be here feeding and helping.
