Who we are
The Agripreneurship Alliance is a small Swiss based non-profit Association. Founded in 2017 by Dr. Anne Roulin and Steven Carr, it is governed by an Executive Committee elected by members of the Association and advised by a group of dedicated and experienced professionals.
We are proud that Professor Ruth Oniang’o is our patron
Mission
Our mission is to promote and stimulate youth driven entrepreneurship in agriculture and agribusiness within developing economies
Vision
We work towards a future where resilient and sustainable communities are supported by youth-led agribusinesses providing safe and nutritious foods, creating employment and wealth where everyone regardless of gender or family background can reach their full potential.
Where we work
The Agripreneurship Alliance currently works in partnership with Universities and Institutions in Kenya, Somaliland and Uganda.
What we do
The Agripreneurship Alliance, working with our key partner, the African Management Initiative, has created a platform based blended learning course called "Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness". This short course is facilitated by local colleagues in universities and takes students through an experiential and participative process lasting 30 hours of group work time and 50 hours of individual learning. At the end of the course the students, often working in self-formed teams, identify business opportunities within the agri-food sector and then create professional standard business plans that they are then supported to turn into real world activities.
First year impact
2018 was our first year of operation and we achieved the following:
- 5 "Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness" courses completed in five different locations
- 87 students completed the course
- 31 Business plans completed
- 49% participants were young women
- 8 new businesses launched
- 9 businesses strengthened
- 3 businesses to be launched in 2019
- 5 Businesses start-up awards presented, each of US$1,000
