Who We Are

Kiwanis is a global non-profit organization of volunteers dedicating to serving the needs of children throughout the world. The Kiwanis Club of Vancouver has been quietly dedicated to serving the needs of our community since 1919, and we are proud of the city's transformation since then.

You may be familiar with Kiwanis through our Wine Ta sting & Silent Auction or the Kiwanis Music Festivals. What you may not know is that Kiwanis also serves the needs of our city's aging population by providing affordable housing. Between five Kiwanis chapters throughout the lower mainland, we provide housing to more than 1,000 senior citizens across several facilities.

The Need

With the COVID-19 situation, the health and safety of our senior residents is a top priority for us more than ever.  As health authorities have stated, older adults are especially vulnerable and among the highest risk populations in the wake of this pandemic.

Precautionary measures have already been taken in line with government health recommendations, but we know more proactive measures will be needed to ensure the safety of our senior residents across each local community. We are actively working with our partners (e.g. building managers, property management companies, municipal governments, BC housing) to follow government-recommended measures and also to understand the evolving needs across each of our buildings.

We are anticipating a need to install hand sanitizing stations throughout our facilities, additional cleaning supplies for building managers, and supplying residents and guests with disposable gloves, respirator masks, and hand sanitizer, and we are considering options around offering services including the delivery of groceries, medications, or other needed items.

Our Ask

Please help us help our society's most vulnerable. We are asking for your financial support to keep our 1,000+ senior residents safe and healthy during these difficult times involving COVID-19.

Because any costs related to this pandemic are over and above our budgets, we are raising money in anticipation of the need to act urgently on those recommendations from the report that we will soon receive from our Senior Citizens Housing Committee together with our partners.

Suggestions Welcome

We are actively working to find suppliers to work with in such a way that PPE are not diverted from our front line workers, and are working to understand the total costs that would be associated with such purchases of products and/or services.

We welcome your ideas on how to provide additional support to meet the needs of our senior residents in this emergency situation. Do not hesitate to make a suggestion directly to this campaign as a comment for our group's consideration.

Financial Accountability

We understanding fundraising transparency and financial accountability is important for donors.  Rest assured knowing we have standards and financial controls in place to manage funds responsibly.

All funds raised in this campaign will be directed to the cause of keeping senior citizens safe during COVID-19. At the conclusion this fundraising campaign and after we've passed the critical phase of this pandemic, we will report all relevant financial affairs accurately and completely to campaign donors.

We are grateful for your generous support.

Tax receipts will be issued once donations are processed and after you've completed your billing information.

In the event of a funding surplus, excess funds will be directed to other charitable projects of Kiwanis.
