The heartbreaking time is coming that all fur parents dread. My sweet old man, Fangy, who is 18yrs old is coming to the end of his life in this mortal incarnation. As everybody who knows us knows all too well, this guy has been my best pal in the whole world. I just adore him. I spend every day with him eating meals together, talking to him constantly, snuggling in bed....our lives are very intertwined.
We noticed a few months ago he was beginning to lose weight no matter how hungry he seemed to be. Just over a month ago I took him to the vet and found out he has hyperthyroidism. This would cause his heart and kidneys to work in overdrive. I put him on medication in "hopes" we would see a positive turn around. Unfortunately, that was not the case and he is going downhill rather quickly now. Today I noticed both sides of his mouth has ulcers and one on his face, which means his kidneys are not filtering toxins anymore. I know its time.
Ive messaged his vet and will be consulting with her tomorrow. In the meantime I need to get started trying to gather funds to have him put to sleep and get his cremains back. I would rather get this over with before things really start to get worse. I swore I would NEVER let him suffer and im going to keep that promise no matter what I have to do.
