Kate Ritter LBDI 2021 hasn't added a story.
Hi! My name is Kate Ritter and I am the current VP of Community Impact for the Junior League of Louisville. I have been a Junior League member since 2012. The JLL has personally impacted me in many ways. Last year, our membership voted to select Youth Homelessness and Development as our Community Impact issue for the next five years. At the time I never could have imagined how incredible our work in this space would be; and we are just getting started!
The funds raised this week make possible the work and mission of the Junior League of Louisville, which includes promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. All donations are fully tax-deductible. A few of the ways the JLL is using unrestricted donor gifts include: developing and executing a life skills curriculum for youth aging out of foster care, executing a program designed to teach healthy relationships to at-risk youth, collaborating with local partners to develop a reengagement center to assist young adults with access to education and employment, and providing meaningful volunteer and leadership training services for our members, and so much more!
I am excited about participating in the Little Black Dress Initiative. We want to stimulate discussion within the community while also raising funds to continue our meaningful work. This week-long campaign aims at highlighting challenges that local youth experiencing homelessness are facing and how the JLL is working on projects and pairing with community partners to combat some of these challenges. These challenges include the impact on education, employment, housing security, and health and safety concerns that disconnected youth and youth experiencing homelessness are facing.
Wearing the same black dress/attire this week is a small representation of the limited choices people in poverty face but I hope that this campaign raises awareness of the challenges some of our youth are facing regularly. I hope you will consider donating to a cause that is so important to me!
Thank you for your support!
Founded in 2014 by the Junior League of London, the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a social media-driven awareness campaign and fundraiser. This is the second year the Junior League of Louisville has participated in this initiative. Advocates wear the same black attire and an LBDI button for 5 consecutive days to:
-
RAISE AWARENESS of the challenges impacting homeless youth in Louisville.
-
ILLUSTRATE how the JLL and its projects and partners are working to combat some of these challenges.
-
RAISE FUNDS to support the Junior League of Louisville, an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our goal is $13,000 from the Fundrazr.com campaign alone.
Thank you for your support of JLL's 2021 LBDI Week!
