Pat Fogo hasn't added a story.
Hope, a older, frail female Boxer was picked up by Doc Rick Broz on a cold March day. She was taken to a local vet then transported to the Lorain County Dog Kennel- which is a county mandate. There she waited her first 72 hours for her owner to claim her. No one showed. Our brand new rescue, North Coast Boxer Rescue went to the pound to visit her. She had been up for adoption for quite a while but no one wanted her. First passing by her cage- thinking she was a male dog while we were looking for a female. Confirming her cage number, we were shocked to find Hope has a HUGE mammary tumor that is so large she appeared to not be female! Her walk is distorted from the size of the tumor. Protocol required her to go for spay surgery before coming home, but the vet would not perform the spay. She was too far malnourished, weighing only 39 pounds and the tumor surgery would need to be done first. So we took her to our usual vet for blood work. Now, she has been at our home fattening up on ground beef and rice, peanut butter sandwiches and Blue Buffalo treats. Hope has other tumors and skin tags as well, plus epilus in her mouth (which are generally non-cancerous hard lump tumors, sometimes surrounding teeth- making eating difficult).
Hope isn't alone at our new rescue. We also have Bri, another older emaciated female boxer in need of surgery, and Sophie, a pup (update recently adopted) with a broken leg and pins to be removed. Kirby is a older male boxer boy who's recovering from what appears to be acid burns on his back side.
So, we are new but we don't back away from the challenges. We've jumped in to start saving these babies from Who Knows What they have been through... to heal them, love them and re-home them.
Can you help us get a better start? Any money donated goes right to the care of these furbabies. There are more out there. There are always more out there, the demand is great. We are up to the task, but the financial responsiblity slows our ability to help more.
Hope and Bri have a sponsor to help them, but the others do not. And there are more coming, more hardship cases, more surgeries, more loving animals willing to forgive us for what humans have done to them. Thank you for helping us to help them.
