Kassady Oberacker hasn't added a story.
Vincent is in dire need of funds for both legal counsel and medical
care. As I’m sure many of you know, Vincent Ruby almost died in
February 2011 and fought back through a nine-week hospitalization that
included the following diagnoses: Hypertension, Acute Respiratory
Failure, COPD/Emphysema, Depression, Insomnia, Malnutrition, Acid
Reflux, Status Post Necrotizing Pancreatitis, Delirium, Debility, and
a nodule on his left lung.
Not only has Vincent had a near death
hospitalization that took him “out of the game” for two years, he has
also been dealing with two abdominal hernias and C5-C6 Degenerative
Disc Disease that are also causing him debilitating pain. On top of
the pain, Vincent also lives with chronic sinusitis/rhinitis that
affects his ability to properly breathe and therefore, perform. The
pain that Vincent has been experiencing has caused him to lose
sleep/have non-restorative sleep of less than five hours a night, be
on a constant dose of prescription medications just to put a dent in
the pain, and caused him to be unable to work at the level he was able
to before he became ill and hospitalized in February 2011. Add to this
a down-turned economy, and it becomes even more difficult to meet
one’s financial obligations. Vincent is in need of surgery to correct
both of the hernias, but because he’s self-employed and the surgery
will take him out of work for at least six weeks, he has been putting
it off to continute fighting for his parental rights... for his
children...
Since Vincent has been out of the hospital, he has
been struggling to get back on his feet (with both health and
finances). Even though he has been well enough to resume his court
ordered visitation with his sons, unfortunately, both of his ex-wives
have habitually refused to follow the court orders and create all
kinds of unnecessary “requirements” for Vincent to see his children.
Bottom line, he is seeing his oldest son (on average) 3 hours a week
and has been denied all court ordered weekend and summer visitations
by ex #1. He also has not seen or been able to talk to his youngest
son nearly two years. Ex #2 has tried to manipulate Vincent into
signing his parental rights over to both her father and secondly her
new husband, under the pretense that it is the only way to get their
diabetic son health insurance (which is just a bold faced LIE). We’ve
talked to a few lawyers and with the complexity surrounding the
situation, it is around $3000 just to retain someone to take this
case. It’s a hard fight, going up against a prejudiced system, but
this is for his children. They are the most important thing in the
world to him and I’ll do anything I can to help him get them back into
his life. I hope you’ll all join me.
Many believe that the life
of a musician is glamorous and at times it certainly can be lucrative.
However, as I’ve pointed out and we’re all aware, our current economy
is not paying musicians what it once was and one cannot be expected to
earn what they were a decade ago… certainly not with chronic,
debilitating pain. I have been helping Vincent with his
finances/budgeting and there is no extra money, in fact, there is a
deficit. Vincent is doing as best as he can to make good on all of his
bills, as well as his child support obligations, but the current
figures are not based on his actual income and we have been fighting
with inadequate legal representation, at best. On top of it all, as of
today, we learned that we may lose our home to foreclosure. I, too,
have multiple health problems that preclude me from being able to work
(by doctor’s orders). We live on an extremely fixed income and do not
do/buy things that are out of our budget – we only purchase things
that are necessary for daily living, our prescribed medications, and
standard business related expenses.
We are asking everyone to
reach inside their hearts and ultimately inside your wallets. Please
consider donating whatever you can possibly spare, so that Vincent can
hire a lawyer to fight for his rights to see his children and obtain
the medical surgeries that he needs to be able to live as comfortably
as he possibly can. I also would like it to be known that Vincent is
not very comfortable asking reaching out to people like this for
money, but this just goes to show the desperation of a father that
wants to be with his boys. I will also be hosting a benefit for him in
late spring/early summer that will include a concert. I hope many of
you can attend! Thank you.
