Not every kitty has a home...some, once rescued, have no where to return home to. These are the kitties that we places into our barn...a safe haven where they can live their life free of stress...a place where they receive food, water and shelter.

Forgotten Felines of Maine helps the feral, stray, homeless and abandoned cats in our neighborhoods. While we do TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) we do have permanent residents in our care...feral and sometimes friendly cats who have no other place to call home. We have:

Max (1st in photo above), dropped off at a vet office because he was old and no longer wanted;

Tuna (2nd in photo above), surrendered to us because he was biting...and yes he attacks and bites hard when the mood strikes him so he is unadoptable but happy in the barn;

Adela (3rd in the photo), trapped because the house he found shelter under was torn down;

Pepper, the feral kitty whose colony was trapped and anihilated when neighbors complained that 'someone' was feeding the cats in the trailer park;

Dewey, the blind feral who would not stand a chance in the Maine woods;

Bambi, the once feral cat who lost her home in a fire;

Charlie, the feral kitty once fed by an elderly lady no longer physically able to do so;

and many, many more.  All with the same sad stories and no where to live. So they live in our two-story barn with a 10'x40' outdoor enclosure which is nice in warm weather. But this is Maine and winters are cold and these cats not only need a warm, dry place to curl up during long cold days, they deserve it. In 2011 we had a Rinnai propane heater installed to help keep the kitties warm.  It keeps the first floor warm and the rooms upstairs are filled with fresh straw for those whose choose to remain there.

Every year I forget about heat until winter is finally felt in the air and it is COLD!  We are in for a very cold winter and we need these kitties to be warm.  It helps keep them emotionally and physically well.  Look at your kitties....can you imagine them alone and suffering the cold Maine winters outdoors? I am certainly glad the cats in the barn don't have to suffer these winters either thanks to you and your contribution. Thank you for caring enough to make a difference in the lives of these cats....they will be warm this winter....just like all of us should be.  God bless...xo
