"Did you ever dream an impossible dream? As a kid, I used to think about all the things I wanted to do with my life and would think about all the things life could bring. I would think about the colleges in far of places that I wanted to go to, the countries I wanted to see, and the experiences I wanted to have, as I got older. I never expected that by age 19 I would be flunking out of my first college and struggling to survive this thing we call being an adult. I couldn’t seem to do the life thing that everyone else had down so well. Before long, every single dream I had as a kid disappeared, vanished into the abyss that was the hopeful existence I had planned. That wide-eyed girl, who thought that the most prestigious school in the world – Oxford University – was possible to attend, died off and left a shell of a person. I struggled with many issues while I gave up on the impossible and surrendered to the mundane.
Then one day, for some strange reason, the issues I had surrendered to, the ones that had me broken down, begging for mercy, all of sudden became possible to solve. At age 25, I was given a second chance on life. I had no idea why, but the gift was gratefully received. However, the impossible was still dead to me. How could I ask for my childhood dreams to be fulfilled now that I received a second chance? I should be grateful for what I have and love the life that was possible. I did so for years. I surrendered to the possible and lived in a state of perpetual, but grateful, mediocrity. How could I really ask for more? It would be like looking a gift horse in the mouth.
At 28 years old, I realized for the first time why I was rescued from a life of despair and misery. I realized what I was supposed to do to better the future. I had a moment of clarity once again and recognized the truth – that I was given a second chance for a reason. Now it was time to utilize that gift. I packed up my belongings and moved to a new place, gave up all I knew, walked away from my support system, and followed my dreams. I followed small dreams at first. I tried sticking my toes in the water, to test if I was really walking in the path that God had laid before me. I started attending Brevard Community College. I earned Associates in Arts degree from Brevard Community College and received an acceptance letter and scholarships to attend Florida Institute of Technology.
Was this a sign? Was I walking down the right path? You bet your ass! I took every opportunity to learn, network and grow. As a result, I have made Dean’s list each semester at Florida Tech. I still did not believe that the impossible could become possible until I walked past a giant poster advertising a study abroad program in none other than beautiful Oxford, England. Which college would I attend? You guessed it. The one, the only, the prestigious Oxford University! I couldn’t believe my eyes. How could someone as lost as I once was be staring my dream in the face after coming out of the darkness and into the light? But there it was. Beautiful, powerful, and now more than ever, possible. I applied, not believing I would be accepted. However, I was wrong yet again.
The point of relaying this dream to you today is to ask for your help. My dream has become possible. I have almost all the money I need to make this happen. The key word is almost. I need as many donations as possible to raise the rest. Please help make my dream a reality."
