Solidarity Farms hasn't added a story.

With fulljoy we invite you to join us for the next chapter of our Solidarity Farms story: living with the land! Click Register above to create your own fundraising page to send to your friends and family, or click Contribute above to make your tax-deductible donation directly through our beloved partner and fiscal sponsor, Meadows Livingstone School.

Last year, with the trailblazing support of our generous donors, we were able to acquire 12.5 acres of land to support our Solidarity Farms mission: to utilize indigenous, gender and climate justice practices to disrupt institutionalized rape culture and patriarchy. We prioritize uplifting women, girls and LGBTQIX people in Jamaica. Our niche programs and services have touched over 2,000 women and LGBTQI+ folx in Jamaica since 2016. Since 2021, we have been receiving more inquiries for our programs from homeless women, survivors, and young women who are ready to access our land-based services.

And now, miraculously, the parcel next door to our existing farmland is up for sale! Even more amazing: this land contains the one thing we are missing and we need the most: a homestead, complete with running water, electricity, and all the amenities we will need to run our farm and programs for survivors.

The Livermore House, so called for the family that built this farmhouse in 1970 and has lived in and loved it since, is being sold fully furnished.  It comes with updated, comfortable furniture and appliances, a working satellite dish, access to Wi-Fi, and a secure garage with space for our equipment, tools, and vehicles. Outside of the house are four other built structures, including a concrete production building, a tiny house, 1000 square feet of storage, and an outdoor toilet (in addition to 3 indoor bathrooms). The land comes with mature cacao trees, and some of the same trees, springs, creeks, along the White River that are on our current acreage.

Having this space as our home base will immediately allow us to:

  • Provide our visionary steward, Afia Walking Tree, with a permanent home base with all her tools, medicines, and ability to unleash more of her magic  to our community in Jamaica and beyond.
  • Ground our movement and facilitate fully functional operations for our team to bring the farm and all of our programs to life.
  • Offer survivors refuge and solace who are in dire need of transitional housing, onsite- trauma restoration care, and skills: leaderfull training in permaculture, organic farming, production, sales, and many life skills and economic, emotional and physical sustenance they deserve and need.

Acquiring this home will save precious money, time, and energetic resources, as it eliminates our need to design and build a living space to begin implementing our mission. It also relieves the need to source building supplies and contactors in an already very limited island economy. Plus, it enables us to honor the Livermore family that is selling their well-loved home after the transition of the family’s elder matriarch.

Being able to access this existing space would make several things possible sooner than we imagined, including:

  • Decrease of our startup costs by approximately $250,000 and move up our timeline by two years.
  • Eliminate time-consuming and vehicle-damaging back-and-forth travel for our team.
  • Expand indigenous and regenerative/permaculture land practices.
  • Preserve and perpetuate the medicines of cacao, coconut, and bananas, moringa, turmeric, ginger, pimento, and many others we plan to restore.
  • Prevent any further chemical-based farming in the area by offering courses to our community of survivors, which we have already begun.
  • Repatriate land likely to be otherwise developed by non-Jamaican or Jamaican extractive investors.
  • Allow for scaling our regenerative farming operations in future years to meet the growing need that we anticipate once our programs are known island-wide and beyond.

The 4,200 square foot Livermore House is built on one acre and has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and is situated adjacent to our existing farmland on 16 acres.

In November 2021, with the help of our beloved community, Solidarity Farms purchased 12.5 acres of premier farmland to support our mission to utilize indigenous, trauma-informed, and land-based practices to disrupt institutionalized rape culture and patriarchy, prioritizing and uplifting BIPOC women, girls and LGBTQIX people in Jamaica.

With our dream beginning to unfold, we have spent the months since the purchase developing our relationship with this sacred and beautiful space and the community. We have done ceremonies, and in alignment with indigenous, permaculture, and regenerative farming practices, are mapping the zones and sectors highlighting its many amazing features (including natural springs and ancient trees!).

We’ve chopped ‘n dropped, composted, and reused trees and vines that were keeping existing coconut and banana trees from receiving the light they need to fully fruit. We’ve harvested hundreds of fruits, which we have gifted and sold to our communities.  And we’ve begun laying the first access road onto the land so that many future generations of farmers and survivors can heal and grow in this magical space.

There’s of course much more to do before we are fully up and running. Today, we’re grateful for your help in putting down roots so that we can grow into the next chapter of our Solidarity Farms Jamaica story.
