Charline C C Spina-Howell hasn't added a story.
With 4 different cancers C.C. has beaten the odds and is cancer free. But fighting cancer, traveling 3 hours one way to her oncologist and 10 hours one way to her bone marrow transplant team has taken a toll on her family financially. More than once she has postponed having tests and seeing her doctors because of finances. She needs to be able to travel to her doctors when she needs to. Postponing tests for even one month can be devastating if the cancer returns. She knows all too well how that feels. She was first diagnosed in 1999 with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. She had chemo and would go into remission for less than a year. This happened for 5 years. She would have chemo and achieve a remmission only to have it return in 6 months. She had chemo in 2000 and again in 2001. She was in remission for a year during which time she had a baby after being told she couldn't have more children. The cancer returned after her daughter was born. She had chemo in 2003 and 2004. In 2005 she needed a bone marrow transplant. Remission was again achieved and lasted for 6 years before the lymphoma came back. During the remission she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had double mastectomy and reconstruction of her breasts. During reconstruction her lymphoma came back. She had radiation this time because it had presented in the muscle of her back and engulfed her spine. Then she had more chemo. She is currently in remission from the lymphoma but has had two different kinds of skin cancer, one of which required a portion of her lip to be taken off.
During her six year remission, her mother was diagnosed with inoperable (terminal) lung cancer. She never hesitated. She moved from Arkansas to Nevada (where her older daughter lived) to be closer to her mom and traveled once a month to California to care for her during her chemotherapy,
Her friends and family think she is the strongest woman they know. With all she has had to endure in her life, they would like to help ease the burden of finding the money to travel to her appointments, to be able to stay in a hotel instead of driving there and back in one day, which exhausts her.
