John Jordan hasn't added a story.
Hello I am John Jordan, a songwriter, singer,
saxophonist, and producer for Osmosis Unlimited and
the custodian of our record label NDG Ska. I am also
the curator of Alley Cat Gallery, a public collection
of artwork displayed in the courtyard of my home on Sherbrooke West in
NDG. I have lived here for 11 years and with my inspiring cat Humbert
for the last 7 of them.
I live with bipolar disorder and mostly am able to manage it
very well. Unfortunately, this summer I was a victim of my own success
and the high volume of visitors to the gallery and ensuing activity
and chaos of managing the crowds and keeping peace with the neighbours
triggered a manic episode that led me to check myself into the
hospital in mid August, where I remained and recuperated for 11 days.
During this time I was unable to fulfill a request for bank statements made by Emploi Quebec. They closed my file and I have now not received my disability benefits since June 28, funds I rely on to survive. During my manic phase I managed to burn through my savings on impulse purchases and overextending my generosity to friends and neighbours.
Also during my manic episode some negative and threatening things were published on my Facebook page regarding my landlord, and upon learning of this he instructed his lawyer to file a motion with the Régie de logement to have me evicted as soon as possible. The hearing has been scheduled for October 15.
Last week I initiated a Facebook fundraiser that was successful and raised over $4000. However for reasons unknown to me my attempts to enter my personal information to confirm my identity were all rejected and Facebook Support was not helpful in resolving the issue. This morning I was informed that the fundraiser was closed and the contributions refunded to the donors.
I am asking for contributions to help me with rent, cost of living expenses, and potential legal fees. I have had to reapply for social solidarity benefits and do not yet know if or when my new application will be accepted. I have had to borrow funds from friends to function these past few weeks and would like to repay them as well.
I am reasonably confident and optimistic that Emploi Quebec will reinstate me, and that my landlord cannot evict me for having a mental illness and words being published on my Facebook when no actual harm was done. But maintaining that optimism has been the greatest challenge to my usual positive outlook on life.
Thank you for reading my story and taking the time to consider giving help. Thank you to everyone who already donated in vain on Facebook and I hope you will consider trying again on this platform.
