Five years after his passing, I would like to raise enough money to place a memorial stone in Pete's honour into the National Memorial Arboretum's "Heroes' Square" to commemorate the man that had time for us all...

With the kind permission of Pete's daughter, Rachel, my aim here is simple: to raise £600 so that we can commision a stone for Pete at the National Memorial Arboretum as part of their "Heroes' Square" paving slab initiative.  This will thus see a permanent memorial to Pete at a place where anyone can go to remember him.

Most significantly to me, I hope it  can bring some comfort to Pete's widow, Anne, for her to see that he has not been forgotten 5 years on and that his involvement in our lives was valued by so many.

If you're here I'm sure that I need not introduce you to who Pete Whiley was, what he did for many of us, how many problems he fixed or how worse off we are for his passing in February 2010.

Some may be aware that Pete is already remembered in military circles via a dedicated training room at Chicksands as well as the compassion award in his name at the Pathfinder building, Wyton.  Whilst his contribution to imagery intelligence and its workforce is remembered at these sites, it excludes those of us not working in those environments, particularly his family and friends outside of his work.

I'm sure that all who knew Pete would consider a memorial to him at the NMA fitting for a man who played such an important role in so many lives.

In the event that more than £600 is raised, any excess would be donated to Pete's 2 nominated charities, Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes.
