~THE 4 FORGOTTEN DOGS OF DAHLONEGA~ 03/06~~UPDATE~~ TIKKA, DALE, & GASTON HAVE AWAITING RESCUES IN WASHINGTON STATE! TRANSPORT LEAVING THIS SUNDAY W/ $220 LEFT TO RAISE! DUDLEY HAS FOSTER PENDING! PLEASE HELP ME HELP THEM! Tikka, Gaston, Dale, and Dudley, were on schedule to be received by a committed rescue 4 weeks ago. The rescue was contacted to make the transport arrangements, at which time they notified me that they are not able to accept them into their rescue at this point in time, which meant that they were left in boarding with nowhere to go. I was asked 6 weeks ago, based on Dudley and Gaston’s reported “current state of anxiety and kennel stress”, to either find them a less stressful place for them to go, or consider euthanizing both of them. I replied that under no circumstances would I consider euthanizing any one of these dogs, as it is the failure of people that brought them to this point, and those that call themselves "rescue" are responsible to make right what the world has made wrong, for each of these amazing Dahlonega Dogs. They were transferred to a different boarding facility last weekend, but remain with no "rescue," no "home," and no one to give them the second chance at life that they deserve. Everyone who has met each one of them has been touched by the hope in their eyes and the trust in their hearts, and I made them a promise that I would not let them down and would find them a way out. THESE DOGS NEED YOU TOO! THEY NEED US! THEY HAVE BEEN FAILED AGAIN BY THOSE THAT PROMISED TO NEVER ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN! Dudley and Gaston who supposedly needed to be killed due to their stress level and behavior, rode like perfect gentleman throughout the 1 hour car drive south. There were no signs of aggression by any of the dogs, from the time they were picked up at their original boarding facility, to the time that they had to be placed back in another cage. We gave them bones to help deal with the stress of being in yet ANOTHER cage, and promised them that we would be the ones that would never let them down. They were all so excited the day they were picked up from boarding at the shelter vet, and it was heartbreaking to see the hope in their eyes, that maybe…just maybe…this was the ride that would finally be taking them home. These are the forgotten, the abandoned, the ones that walked out of the shelter alive, believing that they were free, and are now going on their 8th week of having to spend their days, locked up and lonely, with nowhere to go, no place to be, no one to call their own. Rescue is not about preventing a dogs death by taking it out of a shelter cage and placing it in another. It is not about turning your back when you hear the word “safe,” and moving on to more “urgent” things. A dog is not “safe” the day they walk out of that shelter door, and people continuing to see them this way, puts them at a very large disadvantage as far as adoption or rescue is concerned. If they were going to die tomorrow, the reaction to their plight would be entirely different. People would care, people would notice, people would step up and help. What is at stake here for each of them is something much more serious than life or death. They can only remain in boarding for so long, before the will to live and the courage to hope slowly fades away. Tikka, Gaston, Dale, and Dudley deserve better than this. If anyone is interested in adopting Tikka, Gaston, Dudley, and/or Dale, or accepting them into your rescue, please contact Natalie at for more information. PLEASE HELP ME HELP THEM! THEY DESERVE TO HAVE A VOICE! ~Never claim “rescue” unless you are willing to follow through until the very end…whatever that end may be.
