Alex John Paul Lee was born at 35 weeks with 2 holes in his heart, chylothorax, partial deletion of chromosome 14 syndrome, panhypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, growth hormone deficiency, chronic lung disease and more. He spent the first 2 months in ISCU at UTMB. After being released he has been hospitalized for congested heart failure, pulminary edema, and pneumonia. His latest hospitalization began on Christmas morning at 1:30 am. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and coded 3 times that day. He was put on a ventilator for 2 weeks, then was kept in the hospital so that he could have open heart surgery on 2-1-13. The surgery went well, but recovery has been slow. He coded on 2-3-13 again, but the team here at Texas Children's Hospital acted fast and was able to get him stable again in a short time. Alex was taken off of the ventilator on 2-7-13 and put on a C-Pap machine. He continues to struggle to breathe without the assistance of the oxygen, yet he keeps putting a smile on his face and charms the nurses. We want to make his journey as easy as possible, while every smile brings us joy, and every day we get "attitude" from this little guy, we realize even more then strength to fight and the need for awareness.

This is only the beginning, we have no idea what his future holds. All we know is that he is a true miracle and a gift from God. Our family is struggling financially due to the fact that his mom has spent most of Alex's life in the hospital.

Alex's Dad is torn between making ends meet and wanting to be here with his son. There are times he only gets to spend a few hours with him because he has to work so hard to keep us from loosing everything we have. They are having a hard time asking for help. They have always been the ones that everyone else turned to, now it's them that needs help. They've tried to just keep their heads up and do things alone, but not it's getting harder to stay afloat the longer Alex is in the hospital. The Bible says ask and you shall receive. So they are swallowing their pride and asking for help for their family, so that they can concentrate on being strong for Alex. Thank you to everyone who supports us in every way.
