Sweet Lewis Wellington passed on March 6th after experiencing a second blood clot. He was initially admitted to the emergency clinic on February 2nd with saddle thrombosis and an underlying heart condition that require continued care throughout his life.
My sweet 6 year old feline friend, Lewis Wellington was admitted to the emergency clinic on February 2nd with saddle thrombosis also known as FATE (feline aortic thromboembolism), a traumatic and painful condition with serious implications. It comes on suddenly without warning as it did with Lewis. One minute he was fine, eating kibbles and hanging out with his sister Berry, then suddenly he cried out in pain and was instantly paralyzed in his back legs because a blood clot had formed in his heart and traveled to his lower back lodging itself in the saddle area. The lack of blood supply and oxygen to his hind areas caused the paralysis. Through quick action by the ER vets using blood thinners and pain medication, he is home recovering from his paralysis. Since then, he has been diagnosed with feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a serious heart condition that requires long term care and management.

Lewis is a special boy. When he was released from the ER, his is discharge papers read: “Lewis is a great cat and we are very pleased he is going home. He was very popular here and he made a lot of friends”. The photo you see was taken by one of the vet techs at the clinic who said he purred through the entire hydrotherapy session to restore movement to his legs.

Lewis has been home for a week now, and continues to show marked improvement in his walking, he even started climbing the stairs to my sheer amazement.

So far, Lewis’ medical bills are $2500 and I could use your help. I will be selling my artwork, and art donated my creative friends on Lewis' Facebook page. A simple donation in any amount would be deeply appreciated. Any dollar amount, even the smallest would be a gift to us. With gratitude and deep thanks from bottom of my heart and Lewis’.
