As many of you may already know, my brother K.C. was in a car accident last Saturday night as he returned home from an event at which he was selling jewelry. The car was totaled and the trailer carrying the jewelry burst to pieces, spewing its contents along the highway. Unfortunately, neither the recently purchased van nor the trailer were insured. Although their car and trailer were damaged beyond repair, K.C. came out of it with only a few scratches for which we are all very grateful. As I viewed the pictures on Facebook and read the comments and well wishes from their friends and family members, I too felt an urgent desire to help in any way that I could. As I thought about it, a story from the life of the prophet Joseph Smith came to mind as recounted by a young man, "I was at Joseph’s house; he was there, and several men were sitting on the fence. Joseph came out and spoke to us all. Pretty soon a man came up and said that a poor brother who lived out some distance from town had had his house burned down the night before. Nearly all of the men said they felt sorry for the man. Joseph put his hand in his pocket, took out five dollars and said, ‘I feel sorry for this brother to the amount of five dollars; how much do you all feel sorry?’ " Although this accident is untimely for K.C. and Celeste with Christmas fast approaching, it also creates a great opportunity to follow the prophet's selfless example during this Christmas season to help someone in need. I know things are tight financially for most people right now, but I also know that if everyone contributes even a little bit, it will make a huge difference for them. I am confident that God will bless you and your family for your generosity and you will feel the true joy of this Christmas season. I have set the goal at $8,000 because that is the combined cost of the trailer and vehicle. Please help me turn this mishap into a Christmas miracle.
