VAC projects offer options for Veterans to improve mind, body and spirit. Vets are the highest % suffering unemployment, homelessness and addiction (self medication & suicide rates). VAC intends to actively raise public awareness of combat trauma wounds.

The Veterans Advocacy Center (VAC) consists solely of a team of VOLUNTEERS, most are combat wounded warriors that have walked the walk and found better options to improve our quality of life.  We get no salary and therefore depend solely on the gifts of supporters like you. The VAC wishes to ensure more of our military family, and their families, gain access to helpful information, programs, and proactive support organizations.

The Issue:

  1. 22 Veteran suicides a day (VA 2013)
  2. Unemployment rate among Gulf War II Veterans is 44% higher than the national average, with 1 in 5 veterans being unable to find work (Bureau of Labor 2013)
  3. 900,000 to 1.5 million veterans live on SNAP benefits (Center on Budget & Policy 2013)
  4. 89% of veterans list "finding a job" their greatest challenge and list key barriers as lack of schedule flexibility to accommodate service related health issues, cultural differences between military and civilian life, and lack of employer based veteran support programs
  5. Veterans are 8% of the population but 25-30% of the homeless. The average cost of a single homeless person on society is $40,000/year (HUD). Number of Gulf War II homeless or at-risk Vets more than tripled in the last five years.  "...Unmet legal needs of Veterans are one of the root causes of homelessness.” (VA) On any given night there are 76,000 homeless vets on American streets. (VA 2010)

We partnered with BioTE Medical on a combat trauma treament study that offers veterans with combat trauma wounds the chance to try healthier options toward improved quality of life at no cost.  We partnered with Cyprian Films as Associate Producers for the short film "Tango on the Balcony" which intends to raise public awareness of combat trauma wounds.  We are in the planning stage with several veteran farmers and community based organizations to develop farming and housing programs that will aggressively address Veteran unemployment and homelessness.
