Help us Help Space- a horse in need. Space is an 18 year old thoroughbred with a fractured jaw. He needs your help to have surgery before winter arrives.

Space was discovered in his field on April 21st with a fractured jaw. It was assumed he was kicked by a herd mate. Space's owner trailered him up to New Bolton for doctors to examine him and have radiographs done. It was decided surgery was not an option that could be afforded at $8,000. Space showed improvement while at New Bolton and was able to chew and eat food. The doctor was convinced Space could have a good outcome and let his jaw heal on his own. For months Space was fed a special diet and kept in his own field, where he'd be safe to heal. He did well and even put weight on throughout the summer. During the end of August Space's jaw abscessed out. He was put on antibiotics and pain medicine. The jaw tried to heal but each time it would continue to abscess out. The vet came out to the barn to x-ray his jaw which showed healing. The dentist discovered bone fragments that have pushed up through his gums and caused infection. Together, the vet and dentist decided Space would need to have surgery to remove the bone fragments that are pushing through his gums.

Space is scheduled to have surgery on November 4th. The estimated cost for Space's exam, more x-rays, surgery, and post-op care is $2,000+. As Space's owner is a mother of a young child, full time college student, with a part time job- it is our hope to help raise funds for Space's surgery. Any amount would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
