Deb Freeman hasn't added a story.
Gizmo is a very sick dog and needs to stay in the ICU at the hospital to try to save her. We have done all we can by ourselves and need to reach out for some help.
Gizmo came to us as a stray that was going to be sent to the humane society. We did not know anything about her background so we brought her home the first night to see if she would be a good fit in our home. She immediately claimed our house as her home and allowed us to live here with her. Over the first few weeks it became evident that she had been abused and that we going to have to give her some space and some reassurance that she would be safe here. Everything progressed nicely and she was obviously more comfortable with us with each passing day. She gained weight and was a happy healthy puppy.
Two years ago we noticed that she was drinking a lot of water and was losing weight. A vet visit confirmed that she was diabetic. There were many visits to the vet to try to get this under control. We had only become aware of pet insurance shortly before we got this prognosis and now that it was confirmed insurance would not cover any of it. There were two incomes at the time so we did what was necessary.
I have been out of work for a year now and have gone back to school (which I am paying for myself) to try to better our financial situation. We have been very careful to keep expenses down until I am out of school and get my new career established, which I will be a massage therapist.
Gizmo was fine through Tuesday evening, when suddenly she started vomiting, became very lethargic and it was evident that she was in a lot of pain. Wednesday morning she was at the vet first thing and they gave her some fluids under the skin and vomiting meds to try to get her past this. Wed evening she was still declining so off to the emergency clinic. She has basically been there since, with a brief home visit for 12 hours to see if we could get her to eat for us. No luck and they are still not able to get her to eat. Her ketones and blood glucose are horribly elevated and they can't tell if she is in pain or just very guarded from all the poking and proding. They want to keep her another two days, but we are at an end with what we can put out financially.
That is why I need to reach out to everyone to try to help us save Gizmo. Please, anything you can do would be appreciated more than you know. God bless everyone who reads this whether you are able to help us or not.
