My name is Rachel Harn. I'm a Girl Scout Cadette working to help Pets for Vets, a program at Operation Kindness that helps war veterans with PTSD and TBI by providing them with lifelong companions, dogs. I am raising funds to provide the supplies needed to start the veterans off with their new pets. Here is exactly why and how I will do this:

Studies have shown that in the past year, the number of war veterans diagnosed with Post Dramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has jumped to 50%, thats over 30,000 people. And that's JUST diagnosed cases. PTSD is often overlooked and to many people it is never diagnosed.

PTSD is difficult to live with. It becomes hard to tell the difference between a safe and dangerous environment or situation. This leads to an alarming number of domestic violence and suicides for returning veterans. Broken families, lost jobs, depression and frustration is what many of the people face after serving their country.

3 to 4 million dogs are euthanized each year.

Those dogs never have a chance at being wonderful companions. The overpopulation of dogs and cats in the US is startling, however the way many people have chosen to solve it is to kill many of them off.

Doctors have proven that pets significantly improve anxiety, depression, and stress. This means matching up companions with veterans is a win-win for both the pets and vets.

Pets for Vets interviews veterans to find what they need in a companion, and create the best match for their way of living and personality. The matched up pet is then trained  with basic obedience and other behaviors essential to living with their new owner before the pair is united.

Together these returning veterans and shelter dogs can heal each other with the unconditional love dogs provide. This is why I stress this cause so much, why I am determined to help it and why you should too.

This is exactly how I plan to help this cause:

-Raising funds through this website

-Bake sales

-Dog washing booths

-Dog walking

-Events

-Finding sponsors

-Selling T-shirts and other merchandise

Please donate to us today to rescue animals and provide companions to military veterans.
