My whole life I've always had an outlet to focus my energy, whether it be soccer, gymnastics, waterskiing, cheerleading, yoga, running, music...and now, boxing. I feel very grateful and fortunate to have been blessed with the opportunities to afford team sports growing up, and yoga classes when I need a boost.

The training so far has been tough, physically and mentally. There are many contenders this year working hard, attending three sessions a week of intense cardio, conditioning...and now sparring in the ring.

This has been a crazy, awesome, challenging, overall amazing experience so far. I've learned that to become a skilled boxer it takes focus, determination, endurance, calm, strength, and the will to keep going even in the toughest times, to keep your gloves up, chin down, eyes ahead.

So now, I continue learning how to fight to give others the chance to learn as well. Sometimes all we need is an outlet to focus our energy. Something to push towards, something to help us work through our struggles in life, something to make us humble and strong and willing to give this life all we've got. I want to give others this same opportunity.

More info about Aprons for Gloves & Eastside Boxing Gym:

Restaurant Rumble 2014 is a charity boxing event organized by the Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association. After 12 weeks of training beginning in the spring, people who work in Vancouver's service industry trade in their aprons for boxing gloves to fight at a professionally organized event in the summer.

The Restaurant Rumble benefits the Eastside Boxing Association, which teaches at-risk youth and abused women self-respect, self-worth and self-confidence through the art of boxing.
