October 2013 I signed up to 2 legs of the Clipper Round the World Yacht race, here I am a good 18 months later signed up to 4 legs of the race and counting down the weeks till race start.. (15 to be exact!)

My absolute dream was to circumnavigate the world but this has not been viable. So I have put all my energy into being able to experience as much of it as I can, and that has enabled me to sign up to legs 1 (London to Rio de Janerio), leg 6 (Qingdao to Western America), leg 7 (Western America to the Panama, then up to Eastern America), then the homecoming leg 8, (Eastern America back to London).

I have now completed my Level 1, level 2 and level 3 training and level 4 is booked for begining of August. We have also just completed a weekend of team building, we are waiting for our boat sponsor so for now just cheer on for Team Huw!

A little background on the race itself for the avid reader..

The Clipper Race was started in 1996, by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. His ambition was to make sailing accessible to as many people from as many walks of life as possible. It is the world’s longest ocean race, with up to 700 people from all over the world taking part in the bi-annual event.

The race has grown and over the race’s history it has covered over three million miles and trained over 3000 individuals from novice to valued crew members.

  • The race has a two billion cumulative media audience
  • 2,527,751 visitors to the event website
  • 206 countries following the World’s largest matched ocean racing fleet

The up and coming race for 2015/16 still has a few ports to be finalised but this is what we have so far...

Leg 1-  London, UK – Rio de Janerio, South America *

Leg 2 – Rio de Janerio,South America - Capetown, South Africa
