Ever since the Supreme Court invalidated the preclearance provision of the Voting Rights Act this summer, it's been open season on voters. Whether through the new extremely restrictive voter id law, redistricting schemes at the state and local level designed to minimize minority participation, or myriad other efforts to impose barriers to voting, it's hard out here in Texas to be a voter.

Empower The Vote Texas exists specifically to fight back against the forces of voter suppression. ETVT has played a leading role in fighting against harmful election legislation; educating voters, activists, organization leaders, and the press about the requirements for voting; assisting voters who do not possess the proper forms of id in getting one; and actively seeking out voters being harmed by the new photo id law to participate in the legal battle. I’m proud of what Empower The Vote Texas has accomplished in just one year.

However, I can't keep this effort going without your help. So if you're fed up with the powers-that-be in Texas making it difficult for average citizens to make their voices heard in the political process, make a contribution today. Every dollar helps ensure that the voters of Texas get to cast a ballot that counts for the candidates of their choice. We owe it to those who fought to secure our right to vote not to sit silently while it gets taken away.

Contributions can be made via mail to Empower The Vote Texas, P.O. Box 93092, Austin, TX 78709 or via credit card at http://www.empowerthevotetx.org/Donate.html.

Sincerely,

Sondra Haltom
President, Empower The Vote Texas
