On February 10th, 2011 Wes discovered that he has renal failure and is in need of a kidney transplant. He was 24 years old with no previous medical issues and otherwise healthy. It was a shock but Wes is a remarkable individual with a very positive attitude. In August of 2011, he was placed on the Transplant list and has been waiting since for a kidney. Wes worked up until June 2013, and because his kidney function had dropped so low, he was in need of dialysis. He’s had three surgeries to be able to do Peritoneal Dialysis at home at night, which would allow him to work, but after complications he was switched to hemo-dialysis every third day where he is not able to work until the transplant. As of now his brother is being tested to be a donor and is scheduled to have two days of tests and labs done October 2-3 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. If all goes well Wes may receive a transplant kidney by the end of this year! After the transplant Wes will be on multiple medications daily and it will be quite expensive. Also, Wes will be staying in Atlanta, which is 4 hours from where he lives, for doctor appointments scheduled weekly for the months after the transplant. For these reason, the Georgia Transplant Foundation has opened an account that will match all donations up to $10,000. This account can only been used for medication, medical bills, and lodging for Wes and a caregiver (his wife or immediate family member).
