Hi! My name is Oswell. I am a sailor and this is Itilia. A wooden boat handmade in the 90-ies in Denmark.
In 2014 she crossed the Atlantic and was sailing across the Carribbean islands during three years. In 2017 I had the pleasure of being part of Itilia's crew and sail across the Colombian coast. It was an experience that significantly impacted my life.
Unfortunately in 2019, due to the Covid pandemic, Itilia was left stuck in Panama. Previous owners couldn't continue with the original plan and because of the hostility of the tropical climate, the boat started to deteriorate. At one moment the bilge pumps stopped working, making Itilia drown, which completely damaged the engine.
A year ago I managed to save Itilia and start repairing her. The time spent in Panama wasn't easy – the cost of living is quite high on the islands Bocas del Toro where Itilia is stuck during almost 4 years now, and the rainy weather made it difficult to work. It has been a great challenge and there is still a lot to do before putting Itilia back on track.
Now in 2024, as the captain of Itilia, I came back to continue
the reparation until Itilia is ready to sail to Rio Dulce in
Guatemala, where I will be able to completely refurbish the boat
before we can continue towards our final destination: Europe.
To do this I need to:
1. Restore the hull and the
rudder.
2. Buy equippement for navigation and a new life-raft.
The cost of this is approximatelly 6000 euros.

Hola!. Mi nombre es Oswell. Soy marinero y esta es Itiilia, un barco de madera construido en los años 90, en Dinamarca.
En el 2014 cruzó el atlántico y durante tres años estuvo navegando por las islas del Caribe. En el 2017 tuve el gusto de hacer parte de su tripulación y recorrer todo el Caribe Colombiano. Fue una experiencia que marcó mi vida para siempre.
Desafortunadamente en el 2019, a raíz de la pandemia, Itilia quedó atrapada en Panamá. Los antiguos dueños no pudieron continuar con la travesía y por la inclemencia del trópico se ha ido deteriorando. En algún momento las bombas de agua dejaron de funcionar, haciendo que se hundiera y se dañara el motor.
Hace un año decidí rescatarla y empecé a repararla. Ha sido un desafío enorme ya que el costo de vida en las islas es algo caro y aún queda mucho por hacer antes de volver a navegar.
Este 2024, ahora como capitán regresé a Bocas del Toro para continuar con la reparación y seguir hacia nuestro próximo destino Rio Dulce, Guatemala. Para esto, necesito:
- Restaurar el casco y el timón.
- Comprar equipos electrónicos y un nuevo bote salvavida.
El costo total para esto es de 6.000 euros.
Estando en Guatemala, podré restaurarlo completamente y por fin seguir hacia nuestro destino final: Europa.
