Rosemary Maxfield hasn't added a story.
One day you wake up, make coffee, pack the kids off to school, and your cell phone rings. A stranger on the other line informs you they have some news about your husband. You panic, thinking the worst, is he in an accident? Instead, you learn that your husband is having an affair.
In October 2012, all my walls came crashing down, and I continue to slowly pick up the pieces. You can never prepare for these moments, but then you are filing for divorce and forcing a smile on your face to shield your children from more heartache and pain.
We have been divorced since 2013. And I’d like to say it ended there. But it didn’t.
Within two months of our divorce, my ex-husband filed five motions against me. Since our divorce, he has filed over 45 motions against me, and nearly all have been thrown out. This has resulted in several hundred trips to court, tens of thousands of dollars, and an inordinate amount of time and resources. I have also lost two jobs in the process.
In some cases, it made sense to go to court. In 2014, my ex-husband was arrested in our daughter’s school parking after hitting me and dragging our daughter to his car.
Others, however, have been a complete waste of time and resources. In July 2014 his then-girlfriend - now wife - filed a stalking charge against me in Florida, requiring that I hire a lawyer and incur travel expenses - even though I had never met her. Those charges were dropped within minutes of entering that Florida courtroom.
He also filed a civil lawsuit against me for libel involving a Twitter exchange between two women I had never met, which was also dismissed.

CT Law Tribune Article on Libel Case
My ex-husband has filed motions that have forced me and the children to move out of our home, prevented me from driving the children, and he has even tried to make me pay for his legal fees.
The amount of time and resources required to defend myself against these motions has been considerable. He appears to have an endless source of funds – despite claiming to only make $3,000 - $4,000/mo – and there does not appear to be an end in sight.
My only concern is that if I continue to represent myself Pro Se (as my own attorney) – as I have for most of these legal battles – I could lose my children. I believe he will continue these attacks until he has full custody. I believe this because he waged the same litany of legal attacks on his former wife – well over 150 motions across 4 years. After we married, he always told me that his first wife was crazy - unfortunately, I know better now. I don't want my children to go through the same pain and stress the children from his first marriage were dragged through years ago.
I write these intimate details of my life because I can no longer afford to represent myself Pro Se, but I also cannot afford an attorney. It is nearly impossible to maintain a job and go to court regularly – sometimes for an entire day – to fight these battles.
I am at a loss for what do, and so I am creating this fund. I have opened a separate bank account solely for paying legal feeds to defend my children in court.
Thank you.
