14 years ago we moved into Eagle Ridge neighborhood and many of the 15 homeowners have lived here for over 25 years.

A green belt of over 11 acres runs along the back of the neighborhood with a bald eagle nest, and the neighborhood overlooks beautiful Lake Sammamish. The green belt features streams, wetlands, upland forests, a meadow and towering Douglas Firs.

Numerous wildlife frequented the area. Starting about 10 years ago, Himalayan blackberry began overtaking the wetlands, and by 2013, towered 10 feet tall spreading through 4 acres of the wetland area of the total 11 acres. The stream was clogged, choked off, native plants withered away. On top of this Morning Glory choked off any remaining spot in the 4 acres. The woodpeckers, deer, Bald Eagles, Pacific Treefrogs and numerous birds disappeared. We even had very rare Land Beavers that made their home here.

In 2012 Woody Hertzog, a resident cut a path down to where the stream used to be, discovering the destruction of the native habitat. The restoration began. Today in 2014, 1.7 acres of the 4 acres of damage wetlands have been freed of the invasive species. Cut down to the ground and manually removed. Over 100 native plants were acquired and planted along the trails and the restoration began taking root. Vine maple, cedar, doug fir, big leaf maple, red alder, salmonberry, fringecup, snowberry, bleeding heart, deer fern, sword fern and the list grows... are installed and beginning to take root.

We need your help! We need to raise funds to secure the much needed additional native plants and extension of trails. Please help participate in the restoration project, that improves our neighborhood, city and community!
