Hands on HeArt by Road to Recovery hasn't added a story.
We're fundraising to deliver a pilot of CRAFT - a new project to support people with lived experience of recovery to create and sell high quality crafts based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
Through flexible employment opportunities, peer support and guidance, we hope CRAFT will encourage those with significant barriers in their lives to find fulfilling and skilled occupation that works for them, not against them.
All of the individuals involved in the project have personal experiences of addictions, substance misuse, diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health illness/issues, emotional distress, and of the homelessness and mental health services. We use the phrase "recovery" as a catch-all term for these varied and broad life experiences.

The creative skills being nurtured will include traditional and contemporary techniques, such as:
- textiles & fashion
- jewellery design
- home accessories
- photography
- screen-printing
- pyrography art (wood-burning)
- woodworking
- Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator design
- and more...
What we'll use the money for...
If we reach our target for the full £1,000, we will use it to cover the costs of our pilot project, which include:
- Support for up to 5 individuals with lived experience of recovery on the project
- Cost of up to 10 pitch fees for local craft markets
- Basic market stall kit, including quality table, tablecloth, custom printed paper bags, etc
- 1 year of market traders insurance
- A printed project banner
- Promotional materials
- Guidance and support sessions (including peer support) delivered by local artists/makers, people with shared lived experience, and social enterprise experts
If we manage to fundraise for more money, we will adapt and expand the project by providing additional support sessions. Our long-term aim is to find a shop location in Great Yarmouth town centre, and our short-to-medium term aim is to build up our project through local craft market stalls and pop-up shops.
The story behind CRAFT...
CRAFT is a new venture for Hands on HeArt by Road to Recovery, a successful independent peer-run arts group established in 2013, run by and for people with lived experience of recovery, including experiences of addictions (such as drugs, alcohol and gambling) and mental health illness/issues.
Our committee at CRAFT is made up local people each with lived experience of recovery, as direct life experience or as carers.
We understand the types of barriers there are to volunteering and work opportunities because we have experienced them ourselves - they include: lack of self-confidence, inadequate support from employers, and inflexible opportunities that ignore the fluctuating nature of health conditions.
Our aim is to work towards building creative employment opportunities that are supportive, flexible and accommodating.
We will be grateful for all sizes of £ contributions towards getting our pilot project up and running!
