What drives Lift Vets?

On average, 22 Veterans commit suicide every day and as many as 59,000 Veterans are homeless on any given night, according to studies conducted by the Veterans Administration.  Our intention is to reach Veterans early on so they avoid becoming another statistic.

How is Lift Vets Different?

Six years ago, I was a homeless and nearly hopeless. I now have my BA in Psychology with certifications in substance abuse case management and personal fitness training. I have worked with homeless Veterans for the past five years in residential and outpatient treatment. Through dedication to my own recovery, I have gained skills in Mind/Body Integration: the blending of mindful meditation and physical fitness. With the experiential knowledge of this powerful practice, I started Lift Vets to help countless Veterans like myself.

Lift Vets serves Veterans of recent conflicts. Our intention is to support them in living healthy lives and successfully reintegrating into civilian life after leaving the military. We do this by offering weekly mind/body integration classes that support physical, social, and mental fitness. Our team consists of a certified personal trainer and substance abuse counselor, a licensed therapist, experienced meditation practitioners, and a supportive community of veterans; all having the intention of building a community focused on overall wellness. Beyond our weekly groups already taking place, we are launching an individual outpatient program and group therapy sessions to help veterans gain the skills for accomplishing goals in three major life domains: physical, social, mental. This is an early intervention to support Veterans who might be at risk for homelessness and suicide.

We are running this fundraising campaign as the first step toward being able to fund developing programs and continue helping those who gave so much for our freedom. If you feel inspired to help Veterans regain balance and become active members of the greater community, please follow the link and donate whatever you feel comfortable with. If you cannot afford a donation, please share this message! Thank you.
