My name is Jason Clark. I was diagnosed at age 12 with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease. This is a genetic disease that causes fluid filled cysts to form in my kidneys. This causes the kidneys to become very large and eventually fail. Right now each one of my kidneys are the size of a regulation NFL football. A normal kidney is the size of an average adults fist. This condition causes me severe pain every day. I can not get comfortable by sitting, standing, laying down, or moving. I constantly feel pain. My stomach has become distended and bulges in spots where you can see the outline of the organs being crammed inside of my abdomen. I recently found out the cysts had spread to my liver and urinary tract as well. There is currently no cure for this. The only available treatments are dialysis or a transplant. I am now 31 years old. Since 2011, I have been hospitalized 7 times for a total of almost 8 weeks due to this disease. I am currently on 5 different medications due to problems caused by this disease. Currently I am still able to work. But I never know when this is going to put me in the hospital, only that it will. I randomly miss weeks at work due to this. Even though I am working, I have no medical insurance at the moment. I have applied for disability insurance benefits but since I am still technically able to work, there isn’t much hope for approval. I was also recently told that I will need a kidney transplant as soon as possible and have started the process to be put on the list. My medical bills are already enormously high and that isn’t even factoring in the transplant and recovery costs. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
