Leif Rayburn is a great father, husband and best-friend . In early Nov. 2010 he found a lump on his left testicle, it took four weeks to get an appointment with the Urologist. Upon the first visit the Dr. was very concerned and scheduled surgery to remove the testicle within three days after the first visit. After the surgery we were informed that his tumor had four different types of cancer which is rare. Two weeks later he was scheduled for his 1st CT Scan which ended up showing that the cancer had spread. On a Wednesday we reviewed the Scan it showed that Leif had Testicular Cancer stage IIIC, there were 25 tumors in his lungs, 20 tumors in his liver and a tumor in his lymph nodes the size of a rolled up magazine pushing on his aorta. On Thursday we met the Oncologist Dr. Peram, by Friday he had his med-port implanted and Monday he started his first round of chemo-therapy. Leif had to complete 4 lengthy months of chemo-therapy double what most testicular cancer patients complete. His Oncologist considered it a success his tumors were still present but were shrinking and his blood work was all within normal range. During and after treatment they monitored his blood work every 2 months, did CT Scans every 2 months for a year then he did CT Scans every 3 months for 6 months and then they went to every 4 months. We were not expecting bad news when Leif only had 3 months and his Oncologist would consider him in full remission. Unfortunately, we got devastating news on March 6, 2013 his Cancer was back he still had tumors in both lungs but they haven't grown, his liver and lymph node tumors tripled and quadrupled in size. We were sent to Indiana this past Monday to talk with a famous physician Dr. Lawrence Einhorn he went over Leif's case and history and has recommended that Leif start chemo-therapy Monday March 18, 2013 this will entail Leif being hospitalized for five days twice for both rounds. Then they want to use medications to boost his immune system to store stem cells for the intense chemo-therapy that Leif will undergo, this chemo-therapy can only be given in Indianapolis, IN. This chemo is more aggressive as well as a longer duration he will have to do Mon-Fri therapy for 3 weeks then he will be given his stored stem cells. Upon completion of the 1st 3 weeks he will go home to recover for and unspecified amount of time to rebuild his strength. After his strength is back he will then return to IN to do the additional 3 weeks with stem cell replacement therapy afterwards. We have deeply appreciated all of your thoughts and prayers. Due to unforeseen expenses with the upcoming trips to Indiana and not knowing were or how the living situation will be there. We are asking if there is any way our friends and family could find it in their hearts and if they can afford it to donate any amount through pay pal or by snail mail. Our address is 403 West Second Davison, MI 48423. Thanks so much and please share! Please don't hesitate to call or visit he needs as much support as possible.
