Thursday evening my boyfriend found our one year old dog Poe laying in the yard with a bullet wound in his abdomen. We took him to the emergency veterinarian who then told us that he had damage to his spleen and intestines and fluid build up. The next day we transferred him to our local veterinarian and after a four hour long exploratory surgery Poe ended up having to have three feet of his intestines taken out, his spleen repaired (turns out the bullet went straight through it) and the lining of his abdominal cavity sewn up. We found out that the bullet was from a .22 rifle and the bullet went clean through him and if we had not taken him in he would have died from fluid buildup (basically anything he ate would have gone into his body instead of processed into his system) the next day. He has been in the vet for the past four days and finally gets to come home tonight in good spirits.

Once we get him home we will take pictures of the damage done, file a police report, and monitor him for the next three weeks. The surgery along with the ER is going to cost close to $5,000. ANY help anyone can give will be amazing. He is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever had and we are beside ourselves with grief and confusion as to why someone would do this to him, much less any dog.
