I saw her picture on Saturday night January 5th 2012 and Lilly's hold was up at 7am the next morning. I immediately fell in love with her as soon as I saw her picture on a networking site for the shelter. We picked her up knowing that she had some upper respiratory issues and immediately took her to a vet to get her started on some anti-biotics. After she had three seizures less than a week later, we knew something else was wrong with her. The emergency vet suspected that it was distemper, but I didn't want to believe that there was nothing that could be done to save her. The following Monday I took her to our regular vet to get a second opinion and he knew just from looking at her that she had distemper. He started on a different regimen of antibiotics combined with supportive care that he had success with in the past. She was put on phenobarbital at the emergency vet and that seemed to help with her seizures, but she still wasn't getting better. I knew that we had to do something else to try to help her. We had heard about the newcastle virus vaccine possibly being able to help with distemper but we were having a difficult time finding a vet close to us that had it available. Luckily we came across www.kindheartsinaction.com and emailed Ed Bond and he replied almost instantly with two vets that did the spinal tap to save her. We took her to Westheimer Animal Clinic Bellaire near Houston, Texas on Saturday January 19th, 2012. I will update this page frequently about her progress and to hopefully spread awareness about this treatment and vaccine and if you are dealing with a dog with distemper or parvo.. there are places that can help you please do not give up. Please help her battle this virus by donating to her fund. Funds will go towards vet bills, food, supplements etc. I am more than happy to provide anyone with receipts if requested :)
