BR&W is rehabilitating its railroad from Ringoes to Lambertville, NJ! The first part of this project will repair the first 2.5 miles of railroad, allowing us to bring passenger trains to WoodsEdge Farm for tours, special events, and more.

Who We Are

The BR&W has offered family-friendly train excursions and special events on our historic steam railroad in beautiful Hunterdon County, New Jersey for over 50 years. We are managed and operated by an almost entirely volunteer staff that is dedicated to preserving New Jersey's railroad heritage for future generations.

The Project

Since 1997, the portion of the BR&W railroad between Ringoes and Lambertville has been dormant. This rail line passes through some of Hunterdon County's most pristine scenery, much of it preserved woodlands and farms. Our project will return this stretch of railroad to active service.

The first part of this project will re-open 2.5 miles of railroad south from Ringoes and establish a new station at WoodsEdge Farm. Our friends at WoodsEdge own and operate this vertically integrated farm that is home to huacaya and suri alpacas, suri llamas and Tibetian yak. The WoodsEdge herds are housed in 4 livestock barns and rotationally graze 28 pastures. The Event Barn is filled with years of trophies and ribbons won by WoodsEdge breeding stock and is home of the WoodsEdge Farm Store featuring products made from hypo-allergenic alpaca & llama.

BR&W service to this new station will include

  • Scheduled trains featuring tours of the farm and shopping at the farm store.
  • Charters for parties, weddings, and other functions.
  • Other special events to be announced!

We are able to move this project forward with relatively modest funding, since the work is being performed by our all-volunteer track crew! Funds raised in excess of our goal will help us further this project with an improved station at WoodsEdge, and additional tie-replacement work continuing south towards Lambertville!

What Does $25,000 Buy?

With your help, our 2016 fundraising goal of $25,000 will provide funds for:

  • One truckload of ties. Along with the ties we've already purchased, this is enough to get us the rest of the way to WoodsEdge!
  • Hardware. Known in the railroad industry as "other track materials" or just "OTM" - this is the spikes, tie plates, bolts and other hardware necessary for installing all those brand new ties!
  • Bridge timbers. These are the heavy-duty ties that support train tracks on some types of bridges. We'll be purchasing enough of them to replace the worn out timbers on a small bridge near Bowne Station.

Our volunteers have already completed most of the track rehabilitation, with just under one mile left to go! With your help we can reach our goal, ultimately returning passenger excursion train service all the way to Lambertville, NJ!
