The Cause:

Hello Facebook Friends and Family! Welcome to my donation page. This purpose of this page is to raise money to pay for my 2014 DCI Summer Tour fees. This summer I will be participating with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from Allentown, PA. The Cadets are a 10-time World Champion Drum Corps. In 2014, The Cadets will be celebrating their 80th anniversary as a corps, and I have been contracted to play marimba in the front ensemble. I am ecstatic for this opportunity, but I need your help!

It costs a lot of money to spend a summer on the road with a drum corps. My tour fees this summer amount to $3600. That is a lot of money to pay for someone who is also trying to get a college education! This number does not inlude the monthly camp fees and airfare. I am looking for YOUR support. I cannot do this activity that I am so passionate about without the help of my friends and family. Even the smallest contribution can make a difference.

What I've learned from marching drum corps:

Spending my summers on the road performing music in the DCI activity has made me the person I am today. The music education experience I have received from so many great teachers has taught me lessons that have stretched far beyond my performance as a musician. I have learned to be independent in life. I have learned how to talk to and treat my peers and adults around me in a mature and professional manner. Most importantly, I have learned how to persevere to achieve a goal. More than any other trait acquired in this activtity, learning how to work incredibly hard to succeed at something has helped me in the most places in life. I am more than excited for the things I will learn in my last two summers in the activity. I hope to gain helpful teaching hints from the staff I interact with for my future career, and continue to refine my skills as a player and member in a top-level organization.

A short history of my music career:

Music is the career path I have decided to pursue in life. I am currently a sophomore Music Education major studying at the University of Texas at Austin. Of course, my primary instrument of focus is percussion. I currently play in the UT Wind Symphony and the UT Percussion Ensemble. I am an all A's and B's student in my classes. I am also currently in the process of rushing Phi Mu Alpha, a national music fraternity organization. I hope to graduate in the spring of 2017 and become a high school band director in the Austin.

In preparation for my career after college, I am currently a front ensemble instructor at Vandegrift High School. The 2013 Fall marching band season was my second year on staff at Vandegrift. The band ended up placing 1st at the 4A State Marching Band Competition and had many other successes throughout the season, including winning Best Music at BOA San Antonio. I love teaching; it is always my favorite part of any day.

This is also my 5th summer of drum corps. From 2010-2013 I played in the front ensemble with the Crossmen, from San Antonio, Texas. In 2010 and 2011 I played xylophone and glockenspiel in the pit. In 2012 and 2013 I played marimba and was section leader of the front ensemble. In the spring of 2013, I played marimba and was section leader of the indoor drumline group Imperial Percussion Theater, from Houston, Texas. I went to Round Rock High School in Round Rock, Texas where I was in the front ensemble all four years and was section leader the last two.
