KidRed Christmas is back for year 3!

I grew up in Washington, Illinois. It was one of those small towns that you see in the movies. A town where everyone was nice and everyone knew each other. A town where kids would play into the very late evening hours without their parents worrying. Heck, there was even a town square with a penny candy store and a drugstore with an actual soda fountain in it. It was great!

And Washington held a special place in my mom's heart...

As many of you have seen in the national news, Washington was devastated by a tornado on November 17. Hundreds of people lost their homes and everything that they had. While the community is rallying, it is still difficult to imagine what the recovery might look like. In the aftermath of the storm, needs are still being evaluated as people try to piece their lives back together

So, that's where KidRed comes in. The plan is to collect money and/or gift cards that will be used to help bring relief to my mom's beloved community. These gifts of support will be hand delivered to the Washington community the week after Christmas, as some of the other relief organizations might of pulled out by that time. I will be keeping my eyes and ears open to needs during the next weeks to see where your gifts might have maximum impact.

I would ask that you participate in KidRed in a couple of ways this year. First, continue to pray for the recovery process in Washington, IL. Secondly, if you are able, please consider donating to KidRed Christmas to help bring relief to this battered community.

Thanks for your consideration, and I wish you a very merry Christmas.

KidRed Christmas was started two years ago to celebrate the life of my mom, Kathie Doering, who lost her battle with cancer in November 9, 2011.
