Simba Pipken hasn't added a story.
5-year-old Simba was brutally attacked by—we suspect—a coyote in the backyard 6/19. He suffered more than 20 deep puncture wounds, but miraculously managed to escape & make it to the house alive. Now, Simba needs your help!
If each person gave $1, it could possibly cover the cost of Simba's surgery, giving Shelby the ability to finish her last semester of school without an additional financial burden to bear.
By giving up one Starbucks this week, you can make a HUGE difference in both Simba and Shelby's life. After all, It takes a village to raise a child. She boldly chose to do what she could to save his life, because after nearly 5 years, Simba's not done living yet. Without the surgery, he would'nt have made it 24 hours. But with the surgery, he's been given a chance.
More on Simba's traumatic story... Simba was taken to his regular vet who immediately said he would be fine. Because the vet's day was booked, Simba was moved to the back until he could get to Simba in the late afternoon. When the vet reached Simba four hours later, his hernia had grown larger than a fist, his small bloody body was filled with toxins and he was clearly suffering. His owner, Shelby, was told Simba needed surgery, but it could wait until morning (when a surgeon was available), because he had a 95% chance of surviving overnight. Simba was then taken to the animal ER for observation. The ER vet took another set of x-rays and immediately said Simba couldn't wait another 12 hours. Simba's organs (pancreas and small intestine) had been punctured, leaking toxins into his body, and his hernia was now larger than a grapefruit. He required immediate surgery, which would give Simba a 65% chance of life if he made it through. There was never a question whether or not to operate, as far as Shelby was concerned. Her only concern was Simba.
Shelby was beside herself with worry & contacted her friend Courtney. She told Courtney the situation and said she would figure out a way to pay the mounting vet bills. This is where Courtney and I (Courtney's mother) said we had to do something to help. We convinced Shelby, Simba's owner, to allow us do a fundraiser to help little Simba. Shelby works 25-30 hours a week (in addition to a full course load) to pay for college expenses, rent and car. To incure $5000 in debt on top of all other expenses is just too much of a burden, just before she graduates in December.
Shelby adobted Simba in high school. She convinced the owner, who's boyfriend abused the puppy, to let Shelby adopt her for $50 instead of the $100, because that was all she had. She would love him and give him a great home. Now, if we can come together as one, Shelby can be free of the added financial burden, a consequence of her bold choice as Simba's mom. She'll be able to move foward, focusing on Simba's recovery, and her last semester of college.
P lease share with your friends on social media, and help us bless Shelby's life during this difficult time. Simba needs your help.
